Please Mr. Postman
Sending mail is hands down one of my favorite hobbies. Yes, receiving mail is nice—I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy online shopping because it has that added bonus of Christmas-morning-splendor when you get to rip apart your FedEx box and relish in this thing we call MAIL. But, there’s just something special about picking out that special postcard, or packing up items in a USPS flat rate box that makes me very happy. It might be at least a little in part due to the fact that I still find the concept of MAIL to be incredibly exciting. C’mon, it enables you to send something, almost anything, to just about anywhere around the world. Don’t get me wrong, e-mail is awesome, but I still think that the ability to get a physical, tangible, and preferably handwritten item from one place to another all for a little (or maybe a hell of a lot of) postage is just plain magical. …Or at least very, very practical, and pretty darn satisfying.
In the end though, I don’t send mail to keep in touch so much as I send it to connect. My handwriting may not always be legible, but I hope that the thought, time, and postage I put into sending you that glossy postcard shows that I’m thinking of you.
Now to get this care package taped up and ready to go…
